Postmodernism and Postcolonialism

On October 5th 2001, the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bologna invited some leading Australian, Russian and Italian literary scholars to discuss Postcolonialism and Postmodernism. The organisation of such a meeting was undoubtely a challenge. Its success showed that, taking the risk of this unconventional enterprise, the organisers and their guests managed to «see things that are usually lost on minds that have never travelled beyond the conventional and the comfortable» (E.W. Said).
The aim of this volume is to convey the feeling of that exhilarating experience.
Included are critical and expository pieces by Bill Ashcroft, Mark Lipovetsky and Remo Ceserani, and interventions and debates by Silvia Albertazzi Delys Bird, Gabriella Imposti, George Seddon, Donatella Possamai, Stefano Garzonio and Veronica Brady.

Silvia Albertazzi teaches English literature at the University of Bologna, where she is also Head of the Centre for Postcolonial Literatures Written in English, French, Portughese and Spanish. Her latest work is: Lo sguardo dell’Altro. Le letterature postcoloniali (Roma, Carocci, 2000). Together with Roberto Vecchi she edited the two volumes of Abbecedario Postcoloniale (Macerata, Quodlibet, 2001 and 2002).

Donatella Possamai teaches contemporary Russian literature at the University of Venice, after working for several years at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bologna. Her latest work is: Che cos’è il postmodernismo russo? (Padova, Il Poligrafo, 2000).
